This week we take a moment to appreciate the intricacies seen on the icons that Russia’s households proudly display, still to this day. I was researching embroidery details to inspire the next collection, and came across a handful of beautifully beaded and bejewelled oil paintings of religious figures.
As I sit here, I think about the walls that these icons have embellished, and how much these must have meant and how we all have our idolised objects in some way. May that be a small statue picked up at a Southern France flea market, or a print given by a friend’s neighbour, these are all in some way, icons. Are they so infused with meaning their sense of nostalgia and well-being perhaps take over in some divine way, but for now, let’s revel in some of the best hand-picked wish-I-could-hang-them ones…
See you next week,
